Chapter i

Finding Beauty in the Concrete: Exploring London’s South Bank

There’s something endlessly fascinating about the South Bank. If we are being completely honest, a lot of the architecture here is, by conventional standards, pretty ugly. It’s a massive, sprawling concrete jungle of Brutalism. Yet, at the very same time, it is incredibly beautiful.

That strange, dual personality is exactly what drew me to shoot there recently.

Embracing the Gritty and the Green

When I sat down to edit these images, I didn’t want to go for a clean, postcard look. The South Bank doesn’t feel like that to me. Instead, I leaned heavily into a gritty, green-toned aesthetic.

That green undertone gives the concrete a moody, almost cinematic weight. It emphasizes the raw, industrial texture of the buildings and strips away the polished veneer of the city, leaving behind something far more atmospheric and real.
