There’s something incredibly quiet and brilliant about portrait photography.
I’ll be the first to admit: I don’t do it nearly as often as I should. It’s one of those projects I only dive into once in a while. But every single time I look back through my archives, it’s always the portraits that grab me first.
There is an unmatched feeling in capturing a genuine moment with another person. You start the session, maybe shake off a little bit of rust, and then everything just clicks.
Take a recent session I was looking back on today. It was just one of those incredibly fun, effortless days. We were experimenting, laughing, and just letting the camera do its thing. Out of the entire day, I walked away with maybe two or three standout shots—those perfect, fleeting frames where the light, the mood, and the person all lined up exactly right.
It’s a powerful reminder of why I fell in love with photography in the first place. You don’t need a massive production to make something great; sometimes, you just need a fun afternoon, a willing subject, and the patience to wait for that one perfect shot.
